About
I am Jason, and Life Ring is a one person business on purpose.
How it started, what it actually is, and what I do to make sure the sites I hand over keep working.

Who
I am Jason, owner and operator of Life Ring Web Services. I started it to deepen my business skills and to put my time into the small businesses and sole traders around New Zealand who need help getting their online presence right.
I have solid training and real-world experience in how websites actually work, and I have learned that the big flashy build is rarely what anyone needs. Usually it is something sharp and fit for purpose.
What
A website and web services business, but for most clients it is closer to a consultancy. I show you how to improve what you already have, and sometimes I do the work myself.
Most people already have a site, and are either financially locked into it or not ready to give up on something they have just paid for that is underperforming. There is a lot that can be done in that situation.
When
I have been on computers and programming since I was young, started my professional qualifications in 2018 and graduated top of class in 2020.
Since then I have worked freelance alongside my main job as Technical Operations Manager at Grow My Business. If a project is bigger than my standard scope, that is usually where I will refer you.
Where
It started in Wellington, in the family home, with an old scrap computer I managed to fix. I have bounced around the suburbs since but never left the capital.
I work with clients NZ wide and occasionally overseas, though my expertise is honed on the New Zealand market. If you are in Wellington, reach out and we can meet over a coffee.
How
What I do to keep the sites I hand over working.
The specifics depend on you, but these four hold across every build.
Tech stack
Low cost, high effectiveness
WordPress on a modern, future-proof stack using open source components wherever possible. It keeps your final cost down while holding the quality of a site four times the price.
Design
Sales first
I am a qualified UX/UI designer from Yoobee School of Design, but my real interest is the backend: search, AI visibility and performance, the things design-first sites tend to overshadow.
Search
SEO and AI optimised
Every site ships optimised for search and for assistants. It is a solid base to set and forget, or a foundation a marketing company can take further.
After launch
Managed hosting
I recommend keeping any site I build on my servers, because both are tuned for it. More to the point, you should not be spending your evening on updates and site security.
No charge, no obligation
Find out what your site is actually doing.
Send me your address and I will run it through the same checks I use on every build, then write up what I find in plain English. Usually back to you within two working days.
Tell me what your site needs to do.
Fill this in and I will come back with an honest read on whether I am the right fit, and what it would cost.
